Operating the Gate

The UniTix Gate Scanner (unitix.aarx.online/scan) is a progressive web application (PWA) engineered for rapid, secure, on-site attendee verification. Instead of juggling paper printouts or Excel spreadsheets, your volunteer team can turn any smartphone camera into an enterprise-grade ticket scanner.

1. Setting Up Gate Scanners

You do not need to share your sensitive Society Admin credentials with entry volunteers!
  1. Navigate to Team & Scanners in your society dashboard.
  2. Click Add Scanner and input the volunteer’s email address and assign them to specific events.
  3. The volunteer logs into UniTix on their personal smartphone, taps Gate Scanner, and immediately sees the events they are authorized to scan.

2. How to Scan Tickets

  1. Open unitix.aarx.online/scan on any mobile browser (Chrome, Safari, or Firefox).
  2. Select your active event from the dropdown menu.
  3. Grant camera permissions when prompted by your browser (Allow Camera Access).
  4. Point the rear camera at the student’s digital QR ticket (whether on their phone screen or a printed badge).
  5. The scanner reads the cryptographic QR payload and verifies it against the live server within milliseconds.

3. Cryptographic Security & QR Revocation

UniTix QR codes are not simple static IDs—they are dynamic, cryptographically secured tokens (qrToken). The scanner automatically guards against sophisticated campus ticket fraud:

🚫 Screenshot & Double-Scan Protection

Every time a ticket is successfully scanned at the gate, its status is instantly locked as Used across the global database. If another student attempts to present a screenshot of that exact same QR code five minutes later, the scanner will trigger a loud audio alert and display a Warning: Already Scanned notification showing exact timestamps.

🚫 Ticket Transfer & QR Revocation

If a student transfers their ticket to a classmate using the official Ticket Transfer feature:
  • The moment the transfer is initiated or completed, the server revokes the original QR Token (qrToken).
  • A brand new, unique QR pass is generated specifically for the recipient student.
  • If the original owner attempts to scan their old screenshot at the gate after transferring it away, the Gate Scanner blocks entry immediately with: Security Validation Failed: This ticket QR code has been revoked due to a transfer.

4. Understanding Scanner Alert States

[!TIP] Ensure all scanning smartphones have a reliable 4G/LTE/5G cellular connection or venue Wi-Fi. Live server verification ensures instant synchronization across multiple entry gates.
