Gate Scanner App — Step-by-Step Operator Guide

The UniTix Gate Scanner is available as a native Android APK and a responsive Web App (unitix.aarx.online/scan). It turns any smartphone into an entrance ticket scanner that verifies attendees and prevents duplicate entries, even in venues with zero cellular service.

1. Understanding the Event Card & Action Buttons

When you log in and open the Select Campus Event screen, each assigned event card displays live metrics and three distinct action buttons:

Event Card Metrics

  • Tickets Sold: Total valid passes purchased or issued.
  • Checked In: Number of attendees who have entered through the gates today.
  • Remaining: Number of attendees who have not yet arrived.
  • Cached Badge: Appears in green when tickets are downloaded offline on your device.

The 3 Card Buttons

  1. Start Gate Scan Button (Wide button with camera icon): Immediately opens your phone camera to start scanning ticket passes.
  2. Event Hub Button (Icon button with green Wi-Fi tethering icon): Opens Multi-Gate Peer Mode to pair multiple gate phones together without internet.
  3. Download Manifest Button (Icon button with purple download icon): Downloads all attendee tickets into your phone’s offline database for zero-internet entry.

2. Standard Online Scanning (When Internet is Available)

  1. Log in: Open the scanner app and enter your scanner account credentials.
  2. Start Scanning: On your event card, tap Start Gate Scan.
  3. Scan Ticket: Point your rear camera at the attendee’s phone screen showing their live UniTix pass.
  4. Observe Screen Response:
    • Green Screen (Valid / Checked In): Beeps once and displays Attendee Name, Roll Number, and Ticket Tier. Admit the attendee.
    • Red Screen (Already Used): Beeps twice and shows the exact time and gate where this ticket was previously scanned today. Do not admit.
    • Amber Screen (Wrong Event): Beeps an alert showing this pass belongs to a different event. Redirect attendee.
    • Grey Screen (Expired Screenshot): Attendee showed a static screenshot older than a few seconds. Ask attendee to open the live UniTix app.

3. Offline Mode (When Venue Has Zero Internet)

Follow these steps when scanning in basements, underground auditoriums, or open grounds without Wi-Fi:

Step 1: Pre-Download Manifest (While you have Wi-Fi or 4G)

  1. Before entering the hall, open the Scanner App on your phone.
  2. On the Select Campus Event screen, locate your event card.
  3. Tap the Download Manifest button (the purple download icon next to Start Gate Scan).
  4. Wait 2 seconds until a confirmation message appears: Downloaded 500 ticket passes offline for "Event Title".
  5. A green Cached badge will now appear on your event card.

Step 2: Scan Attendees Offline

  1. Walk into the venue. You do not need Wi-Fi or cellular data (you can even enable Airplane Mode).
  2. Tap Start Gate Scan.
  3. The screen will display: Offline Mode Active (Local Database).
  4. Point your camera at attendee passes. The app verifies tickets locally and records entry records on your device.

Step 3: Synchronize Records After Event

  1. Once the entry rush finishes and you reconnect to Wi-Fi or mobile internet.
  2. The app will automatically sync records, or you can go to Settings →\to tap Sync Now to upload all gate entries to the live society dashboard.

4. Event Hub Mode (Pairing Multiple Gate Phones Without Internet)

When you have 2 or more entrance gates operating offline simultaneously:

Step 1: Set up the Coordinator Phone (Phone A)

  1. On Phone A, find your event card →\to tap the Event Hub Button (the green Wi-Fi icon).
  2. Tap Host Event Hub.
  3. Phone A will display a Pairing QR Code and local connection address.

Step 2: Connect Sub-Gate Phones (Phone B & Phone C)

  1. On Phone B and Phone C, find the same event card →\to tap the Event Hub Button (green Wi-Fi icon).
  2. Tap Join Event Hub. The camera will activate.
  3. Scan the Pairing QR Code displayed on Phone A’s screen.
  4. Both phones will confirm: Connected to Hub (3 Gates Active).

Step 3: Scan Concurrently

  1. Gate 1 and Gate 2 can now scan attendees at the same time.
  2. When Gate 1 admits an attendee with Ticket #042, all other gate phones are notified in real-time.
  3. If someone tries to present that same Ticket #042 at Gate 2, Gate 2’s phone immediately shows a Red Screen: Already Checked In at Gate 1.

5. Scanner Preferences & Hardware Settings

Tap the Settings Gear icon in the top-right corner of the app bar to customize scanner behavior:
